Frequently Asked Questions
Invisible Question
How do home or office visits work?
We can meet you at your home or office anywhere in San Francisco! All that is needed is a private space free of interruptions. We typically do not travel with a treatment table, but it’s helpful if you have a space where you can lie down on the floor comfortably.
Home or office visits are currently available anywhere in the city of San Francisco.
How do video visits work?
Video visits (i.e., telehealth visits) are a convenient option for meeting your physical therapy needs. Much of what we would do in person can also be accomplished with a video visit. Tempo PT uses a HIPAA-compliant platform for all video meetings.
For a video visit, you’ll need:
- Reliable internet access
- A device (computer, tablet, phone) with video capability
- Somewhere to set up your device to provide us with a clear view
- Good lighting, so we can see you clearly
- A quiet space with sufficient privacy
- Enough room to stand up and lie down with arms reaching forward, up, and to the side
Video visits are currently available for follow-up PT visits if you are located in California during the session. Note that inital PT evaluations are only available as a home or office visit.
Coaching by video visit or phone is available for clients in any location.
Do I need a prescription?
In California: You can receive physical therapy without a prescription for up to 12 visits or 45 calendar days, whichever comes first. Beyond this, you can continue with further visits after receiving an examination and approval by a California-licensed physician, osteopath, or podiatrist.
Insurance Requirement: Some insurance companies do mandate a doctor’s referral for coverage of physical therapy. If you are planning to seek out-of-network reimbursement, consult your insurance provider.
No prescription is required for coaching services.
Do you accept insurance?
Payment for physical therapy services: We are not contracted with any insurance plans and do not bill your insurance. Direct payment is required. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, we provide a “superbill” for potential reimbursement.
Determining physical therapy benefits: For information on out-of-network benefits you may have, call your insurance provider. Key questions to ask are:
- “Do I have out-of-network physical therapy benefits?”
- “Are there specific deductibles or pre-approval requirements?”
- “Is a written referral (i.e., prescription) required for reimbursement?”
If you’d like more detailed information on what to ask your insurance company, please get in touch.
Medicare: Tempo Physical Therapy is not a Medicare provider, so we cannot legally provide Medicare beneficiaries with “normally covered services.” If you would like our recommendation for a physical therapist that is credentialed with Medicare, please get in touch.
At Tempo Physical Therapy, we are dedicated to delivering comprehensive, high-quality, one-on-one care, right where you need it. We center the care we provide on you, ensuring that our evidence-based treatment plans are tailored to your needs, free from the constraints of insurance limitations. If you’re seeking a provider in-network with your insurance, please get in touch. We’d be happy to recommend one.
Insurance does not cover our movement coaching or health and well-being coaching services.
